I am not where I was 15 weeks ago where the definition of methods was that little fuzzy thing you kind of see in your eye that you can’t even quite catch. BUT I am still working through my own definition. Today I am trying on “Methods are the tools that we use to build our theoretical frameworks and methodology is how we use those tools.” Some tools I am applying to my project are (including but not limited to): Tool #1: Subjectivity/Intuition Phillip Brian Harper’s argument of subjectivity in “The Evidence of Felt Intuition: Minority Experience, Everyday Life, and …

Rocio’s Long Project
Hi! My long project will be a work-in-progress website, hosted at the gc commons. I want to use this an auto/duo/multi-ethnographic exercise for myself and others to tell and collect stories. This will be a living tool where I can work through thoughts and ideas of my academic work, but not divorced from the stories of and by people who I am connected with and studying – including myself. I don’t want to just collect information though. It is important for me to collect, document and present as a part of my method – so that stories – people – …
AutoEnthnography
I have been thinking alot about our auto-ethnography posts on padlet. Writing mine was cathartic. While the amount of selfies on my camera roll might expose my narcissistic tendencies (although I like to think of it within the frame work self love) the auto-ethnography assignment felt third person-y in a way that led to introspection. I am still working out why that is. The equalityarchive is where I am going to focus my efforts for the short project – but after a brief conversation with Matt after class – I began thinking more and more about an auto-ethnography project for …

The Blind Men and the Elephant
I was talking through some of the internal choques I felt after class on Monday – and my mom sent me this and reminded me to stop running into the side yelling “it’s a wall!” Not sure this is helpful to anyone else – but wanted to share.
Open v. Access
…because you don’t need access to something that is open – right? This open v ______ (the blank is mercurial because I am having a hard time defining open in a static way so the opposite is escaping me) has been rolling around in my mind since last class – so I am going to attempt to get some of my questions/thoughts/tensions out here for potential conversation. These thoughts all stem from my other class where we are reading among other things Nickle and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich which is essentially a book about her having low-wage jobs and trying …
